FIVE PHOTOS FIVE STORIES: Garden Fresh Greens ! (Day 3)


You all must be aware of this challenge by now. I was so thrilled when Cee at Cee’s Photography Blog invited me to join for this challenge. On the same day Marilyn also asked me whether I would be interested in it. I said, ” Why not ?” It offers so much fun and creativity and moreover all my friends seem to enjoying this.

The rules of Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge are:

1) Post a photo (or more!) each day for five consecutive days.

2) Attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or nothing more than a short paragraph. It’s entirely up to you.

3) Nominate another blogger to carry on the challenge. Your nominee is free to accept or decline the invitation. This is supposed to be fun. It is not a command performance! Well, yes ! There is a bumper crop in my kitchen garden. Lots and lots of spinach to eat, to distribute and to preserve. We as a couple love gardening. Our preference has always been to get a ground floor house with a nice lawn along with a open space so that we can enjoy farm greens in  our daily salads. Of course Angloswiss felines don’t appreciate humans eating green leafy produce called salad  by them.

You see Tabby and Fluffy, I can’t help it. You know being a veggie I have limited options. Though my sons and Tarun enjoy non-veg meal. I am happy and a proud veggie soul 🙂

Coming back to the fresh spinach leaves I was mighty thrilled to see them glowing in my garden. It is 100% organic produce as we do not use any fertilizers or chemicals like Urea for the growth. A good portion of cow dung was added in the soil while sowing the seeds and little care with plenty of water. DSC_4960 Today we are going to have spinach cream soup. I will try some corn and spinach in white sauce sprinkled with some herbs. My son loves to have spinach parathas with white butter in breakfast. The leaves and stems are so tender that they almost get cooked during blanching. No need to cook more. I chop them very fine to mix it in my salad, that’s the best way to consume the goodness of greens. We have also fresh cilantro/coriander in our garden. It gives nice aroma, enhances the taste too.DSC_4961 How about some fresh tender beans to cook? Yes, I can just sauté them in oil to make crispy beans. Add salt, vinegar  and pepper. Here you go !   1. I like spinach very much, but sorry to say it does not like me – indigestion and all the negative effects. Paratha – my favourite Indian bread, fried in ghee of course (but without spinach please).Felines cannot digest vegetables, something is missing in their system. they don’t know what they are missing. I am not a vegetarian, but I do not have to have meat with every meal. Oh, and I also love chana, so I think I would feel very much at home in India (but without the spinach).

  2. Not only spinach (we both love fresh spinach, cooked and raw in salad), but parsley and beans. Every time we’ve tried to grow anything edible, the birds and chipmunks, rabbits and skunks have gotten to it before we did. Now, we don’t bother 🙂 They eat all of blackberries and we provide many bushes on our property for them to enjoy 🙂

  3. We have squirrels who eat corn kernels before they ripe. Parrots enjoy custard apples and then throw half eaten fruits on the ground. Good to know that you both love spinach. We have it in plenty, my whole block is thriving on it. They are happy and I am satisfied.

  4. 🙂 wonderful garden you have their… 🙂 u seem a cooking buff..maybe u cud give me some tips on cooking quick healthy dishes 🙂 and yes I’ll definitely try to participate in the challenge..
