There are few poems you learn by heart they stay with you forever and you want to recite at once at any given opportunity.
Rabindranath Tagore‘s (one of the greatest literary and polymath of all time) poem ‘Where the mind is without fear‘ is one such poem which left a deep impact on my mind and soul. The poem is a prayer to God composed by the Nobel prize winner Tagore during the time when India was under the colonial Rule and people were eagerly waiting to get their independence.
This poem gives a lot of strength to the readers. It is a prayer to the God for a peaceful country free from any kind of unrest or corrupted powers. This is one of the most recited poem in all recitation competitions I attended in the schools, therefore it is close to my heart as a teacher.
Tagore was a prolific writer, play writer, painter, actor, novelist. Known mostly for his poems, he composed 2,230 songs, known as ‘Tagore songs'( Rabindra Sangeet), widely popular and express wide range of human emotions. It would not be incorrect to equate these as rivals to Shakespeare’s impact on the English-speaking world.
Enjoy this famous creation 🙂
