ENDURANCE OF FAITH
To me, endurance is the ability to resist, withstand, or recover from hardships, tough situations, or stress.
It may be seen in the context of an individual or its manifestation in nature.
Recently, I visited Ellora Caves, a WORLD HERITAGE SITE in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India, an archeological site built by the Rashtrakuta Dynasty during the 5th-7th century.
While I looked at an ancient and massive statue of Buddha, I thought, “What else could depict endurance better than this magnificent rock sculpture? This reposed my faith in the splendid heritage of religion as it evolved over the ages.”
Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit, but its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism illustrate the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India.
These caves represent Indian rock-cut architecture, which has withstood harsh climatic changes, environmental hazards, and perhaps poor preservation policies. Despite all this, these caves endured the ravages of nature and are now protected sites under the Archeological Survey of India.
