The internet has recently been swept up by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Is there a cause — social, political, cultural, or other — you passionately believe in? Tell us how you got involved — or why you don’t get involved.
Being a part of society I cannot escape from my social responsibilities. As a teacher, mother and moreover as a wife of defense personnel my hands have always been full. The kind of welfare and counseling drive we initiate in forces no NGO can ever think about it. We work on the ground not as a Campaign force but as a team which reaches the needy people who in turn reap the benefits. Be it a lecture on general health and well being, good parenting, stress management, child vaccination, organizing trips for ladies for their medical check-ups and pap smear tests,I have been deeply involved as a volunteer. Imparting education to children who need guidance, free coaching at the time of board exams were few projects I was closely associated with.
I see internet as a space which empowers the society, its reach is tremendous. ALS Ice bucket  challenge is one of its another campaign which could drive young generation to serve the needy. I don’t get impressed by these social media initiatives as I believe in personal involvement rather than working for a cause which is super hit on Facebook and goes viral. Reliability is partially guaranteed in such cases. What glitters is not always gold.
