This week Jennifer Wells has set the theme Mahogany for One word photo challenge.
Mahogany, basically color of wood, now a days associated with hair color in glamor world, is considered very auspicious in India. It is a color of Heena / Mehndi which is applied on a bride’s hands at the time of her marriage. In fact whenever there is a festival or a marriage takes place at home, applying mehndi by women folks is seen as prosperity and good omen.
Beautiful designs are made on hands, traditional Indian designs are of representations of the sun on the palm, it was to awakening the inner light. Turmeric was also used for the same purpose according to Vedic customs.
Here are few designs I got made during festivities which depict mahogany color. The b’day cake was an effort to make my son happy. We were posted on a place where there was no bakery shop ! …..lol

Thanks Sweety. It was in an isolated, small garrison of Srinagar in high altitude where bakery shop was alien thing to locals…..lol We had gone there during vacations to stay with my hubby for a month or so. Families were allowed to stay for a short duration.
